  Introduction

This section of the Great Wall is located 12.5 miles to the northeast of Shanganguan. With an ancient name¡ªYi Pian Shi, this section was built in the Northern Qi Dynasty (479¡ª502AD), and was enlarged and strengthened in the Ming Dynasty. Jiu Men Kou was a key pass in the Ming Dynasty and it was considered as ¡° The First Pass to the East of the Capital¡±.

  Particular characteristics

This section was equipped with turrets, ramparts and beacon towers. All of them were made of bricks. Jiumenkou is the only section of the Great Wall in the form of a bridge. The total length is 1704m and the bridge-like section is 97.4m.On each side of the Wall there is a small citadel, which is just a castle in the open air with the height of 10m. At bottom of the castle there are 7 arched embrasure doors, which are inimitable on the whole architectural system of the Great Wall.
On one of the towers, people can enjoy the wandering Jiu Jiang River, the grand Great Wall stretching on the ridges of the hill and also the beautiful sea from far away. There is an old saying that if you haven¡¯t experienced Jiumenkou; your efforts to hike along the Great Wall is in vain.¡±
